What does Health at Every Size (HAES) really mean?



Health At Every Size (HAES) is a movement that promotes the idea that people of all sizes can be healthy and should be respected and accepted, regardless of their body size or shape. It is based on the premise that weight is not an indicator of health and that focusing on weight loss can be harmful to one’s health and well-being,


The principles include:

The HAES movement is grounded in the principles of intuitive eating and body neutrality. It encourages you to listen to your body's hunger and fullness cues, rather than following restrictive diets or weight loss programs. It also promotes a shift in mindset from a focus on weight to a focus on overall health and well-being.

Research has shown that this approach can lead to improvements in physical and mental health, as well as improvements in body image and self-esteem. It can also lead to a decrease in disordered eating behaviors and a reduction in weight stigma.
